In order to obtain effective Fire Prevention it is necessary to consider the actual penetrations through fire compartment walls and floors. Synthetic pipes should be especially considered as they are a transporter of fire and smoke from one compartment to another.

Fix using 6mm metal expanding bolts or 50mm long tapcons.

Can be used in plasterboard walls.

Ask our technical department for fixing instructions.

PVC and PE starts to soften at about 115°C, consequently in a short period of time an opening will develop in a fire compartment wall or floor allowing flames and smoke to breach it.

The Firestem™ Intumescent Collar counteracts this and at around 140°C the Firestem™ Flex starts to react under the influence of heat, expanding to seal off the pipe thereby stopping the spread of smoke and fire.

Technical Information

Firestem™ Flex is a unique chemical formula based on expanded graphite (non-toxic) and is maintenance free. Impervious to moisture, acids and chemicals. Working temperatures 30°C to +80°C without damage. Not sensitive to UV light.

Performance

Tested to BS476 Part 20. Should be fitted to the fire risk side, generally both sides of a wall or underside of a floor.

Certification

Like all other Firestem™ products the Firestem™ Intumescent Collars are tested by Warrington Fire Research Consultants to BS 476 part 20 and prEN 1366/3:1993.
